Welcome Message In this issue
By Leonard Kim, KASF-ERC President

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for the support you have given me. To see a record number of representatives from the Board of Directors (BoDs) and many guests attending our first board meeting was a very reassuring endorsement of your support. It was heartwarming to see our members, regardless of their age and tenure with KASF, interact so well with each other - and most importantly, having fun. With your support and the incredible dedication of our officers, I have no doubt this will be another banner year for KASF. In my short tenure as the President of KASF-ERC...

Madame Han Donates Her Painting

Ambassador Han's wife (Ah Young Choi, an accomplished and multiple prestigious award winning artist in Korea) has donated one of her recent paintings to the KASF to be used for our scholarship fundraising. This painting is currently on exhibition at The Historical Society of Washington, DC - Kiplinger Research Library, 801 K Street NW, Washington, DC 20001. Several members at the meeting have already submitted bids for her painting and we will finalize our bidding process when we host our Donor Appreciation Night event in May. You are welcome to submit your bid and we will start our silent bid at the event starting with the highest bid we receive via email. Please contact Leonard Kim if you are interested in bidding.

Ambassador Han's Message
Ambassador Duk-Soo Han attended our meeting and expressed his appreciation for what the KASF stands for in our community and the leadership role that we play in the Korean American community. He also asked for our support to help the Free US-Korea Trade Agreement negotiation by sending an e-letter to our local politician. All you need to do is to provide your information and the website below will automatically send an e-letter to your local politician.

Online Application System
This year, we will be converting to a fully automated online application system. The online system will allow students to apply over the Internet and will not require any material to be sent by regular mail. The evaluation process will also take place online so that each evaluator can perform his/her evaluations anytime and anyplace with Internet access. The system will cost $500/yr to use and the system will be hosted by the vendor.

Virtual Office
As part of our strategy to migrate from a physical office to a virtual office, we are using a free, web-based document storage site called dropbox (www.dropbox.com). By using this site, we are able to store all of our KASF files in a single place where they will be accessible by anyone (with the appropriate access code) and from anywhere. We have created our own account (called KASF-ERC) and we now post all of our KASF related documents, presentations, pictures, videos, spreadsheet, etc. for us to share. If you have any past KASF documents that you think are important to share or would like to have access to this site, please contact David Yang. By moving to a virtual office and an online application system, we are anticipating to save over $10,000/yr in office and other related costs.

Closing Remarks - Dr. Sang Nam Lee
"Strong leadership with palpable vitality and enthusiasm in keeping with the proud tradition"

The meeting was not only well attended but, more importantly, showed a good mix of silver-haired first generation and young, ambitious 2nd generation which is usually a good sign of health for any organization. Dr. Yoon Soo Park, former president in his 80s...
