Meeting Summary - By David Yang, Executive Director of KASF-ERC

If you were there, I'm sure you would agree that our first board of directors' meeting was a tremendous success. In one room, we had leaders and members from all aspects including the Ambassador of Republic of Korea, Dr. Duk-Soo Han. Several of the original founding members of KASF, Mr. Young Whan Park and Frm. Ambassador Kyu Sup Chungwere also able to join us. We were also graced with past KASF presidents Ms. Marina Kim, Dr. Patrick Lee, Dr.Augustine Paik, Dr. Il Sang Yoon, Prof, Hongja Okim, Dr. Don Seung Lee, Dr. Sang Name Lee and Dr.Yoonsoo Park. Also attending was Mr. Steve Choi, our board member, who also happens to be the president of the Korean-American Association of the Greater Washington Area. I believe this is what makes KASF so distinct and extraordinary; people from all walk of life and all ages, with a common goal and passion - investing in the future generation of Korean American students.

In addition to the all of our long time KASF members and leaders, It was also good to see so many new and potential members. Some of them included, Dr. Jeff Kim (Georgetown Univ.), Dr. & Mrs. Albert Oh (Childern’s Hospital), Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Ahn (Bank of America), Mr. & Mrs. Mike Hwang (C2 Education), Dr. & Mrs. Bong Lee (Naval Research Lab), Ms. Melissa Oh (United Dental), Ms. Najung Kim (IMF), Ms. Minjung Kim, Esq. Sinyeon Kee, Mr. Kyung Rok Min (Nine 1 Financial Group), Chairman Sung Wook Park, Mr. & Mrs. Shin Young Cho.

How and what do you feed over 80 people for dinner? Thanks to Mrs. Leonard Kim, a culinary genius, we were treated to a meal appropriately fit for... - you guessed it - presidents! From mouthwatering sashimi to fantastic fried oysters to bottomless jumbo shrimp cocktails, the entire dinner was truly magnificent. With all the people going for seconds, we actually ran out of dishes… for a brief moment.

The board of directors' meeting was informative and enlightening thanks to well-prepared presentations by everyone including Vice-President Sang Kim and Banquet Chair, Sophia Park. It was an especially proud moment to hear Dr. Yoon Soo Park speak on the history of KASF; where it began and where we are now. Dr. Sang Nam Lee’s closing remarks ended the evening with reassurance that young and old are once again united to lead this great organization.

All in all, it was a wonderful evening filled with good intensions, good food, and most of all great people. I can't wait until the next meeting...
